TURKEY

ICEMELER

Walking from the hotel in Marmaris down the coastal path via the pine trees. A long walk and the hills were hit by fire some years ago so the hillside lost a lot of pine trees. Beautiful walk after breakfast. I was staying in Chalis but came to Marmaris for a couple of days to revisit Icemeler as this was the first place I visited in Turkey almost 35 years ago. Cost a total of £4 to journey if I recall about 4 hrs with stops. Stupidly cheap!

I came to see the Hotel Golmar situated in the corner of the bay on the curve of the foothills. This was the hotel I stayed in on my first stay. I stopped to eat at the fabulous Liberty restaurant. Some great food. Had a pide myself basically Turkish pizza..yummy! Had a few beers and then tottered back for the long walk with the go pro .

SEKKLIKENT

A beautiful gorge that is well worth visiting. Quite tricky walking so be careful. I even managed to go right up to the waterfall. Quite a steep clamber over a 4ft drop. Guides will help you and walk with you but they do try to ask for too much in my opinion for doing so. Hold your ground be polite and give a tip but nothing like what they ask for. I tend to do it based on what it cost me to actually come into the gorge.

CHALIS

Chalis is across the bay from Fethiye. Chalis is the more casual beach side of things while Fethiye is large and more business like in its nature. Chalis has a lot to offer however. A beautiful beach, plenty of shops and bars and restaurants at reasonale prices. Last time I was there £2.50 at lunch got me a mango smoothie and a cheese and tomato toastie and enabled me to grab some shade and wifi!
